September 29 - Chemo week and a brief biography of a great man..

This day marks the last day of chemotherapy week #7 (since March). PTL! It has been another grinding week. Nausea and abdominal cramping have been at a relatively controllable level. Working full time is a bit of challenge on these 'chemo weeks". In a couple of weeks, I’ll going to Johns Hopkins so they can do their own bone marrow biopsy on me.

Let me talk about my father-in-law for a bit…

Nimrod “Mac” McNair, (ret. Lt. Col. Air Force) died a couple weeks ago. Jan and our family, along with John McNair (Jan’s brother) and his family were in Georgia a week ago to pay our respects for dad’s burial with full military honors. Delysia (“Dee”), his second wife, was gracious. To see just a little of dad’s military career, go to the video (“My Four Wars”). His life was so much more that just his military career. He was a brother, husband and father of two children. He was active with Campus Crusade for Christ, Athletes in Action and spoke at innumerable prayer breakfasts and lunches across the nation. He was president of Executive Leadership Foundation and even head the International Institute for Absolute Ethics (business ethics based on the 10 commandments). He even ran for Governor of Georgia back in 1994. An amazing man...

During the police escort from Snellville to Canton (where the Georgina National Cemetery is), I was overwhelmed by the respect of oncoming traffic as they pulled over as our motorcade passed. The ceremony with the flag covered coffin and gun salute was humbling. What was just as humbling was looking at all the headstones of those who’ve served our country. I get the same feeling at Arlington National Cemetery where my nephew, Gny. Sgt. Ryan Jeschke (USMC) is buried. Amid all the current controversy, I would challenge any one who would disrespect the flag and national anthem, to do so after they’ve received a folded flag! I honor those who’ve passed on before us and I remember them every time I sing the national anthem or say the pledge of allegiance to the flag of our great country. Let us never forget nor disrespect those sacrifices for the freedoms we all have as citizens of the USA!

Feel free to listen to Lee Greenwood's - God Bless the USA. Thanks to my dad, Jan's dad, Ryan and many other great Americans who presently serve or have served (and sacrificed so much) ...

  1. Your father in law sounds like an amazing man. Thank you for the wonderful words about our anthem and flag.

So happy to read of your good results in your prior post. You and your family are in our prayers and we hope that the results from John Hopkins are just as encouraging.

    Sincerely
Bonnie and Eddie Hoffman and family
